The city of Madrid is witnessing one of the most anticipated exhibitions of the year: “Sorolla through light“, which can be visited at the Royal Palace of Madrid until September 24. The large influx of registered public, more than 100,000 people since February 15, has meant that this is extended for almost three months, as well as the extension of the exhibition’s visiting hours, one of the great events of the Sorolla year to commemorate his centenary.
Exposición de Joaquín Sorolla en el Palacio Real de Madrid
In the exhibition, organized by Patrimonio Nacional, the Sorolla Museum, the Sorolla Foundation and Light Art Exhibitions, the original work of Joaquín Sorolla coexists with the latest technology, as has been customary lately. The scenery of the exhibition halls has been carefully designed to recreate the atmosphere of the Valencian artist. Four rooms of original work exhibit 24 paintings, mostly from private collections and never before exhibited. The curators are Consuelo Luca de Tena, former director of the Sorolla Museum, and Blanca Pons-Sorolla, the painter’s great-granddaughter.
Visitors can also enjoy an audiovisual, virtual and interactive experience. Two rooms whose design includes state-of-the-art LED screens show the paintings in detail and how they come to life. The virtual reality room allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the universe of the painter and move to the moment in which he created his main works.
The Exhibition as an Event
This exhibition transcends the limits of a conventional exhibition and becomes a true event. Interior design and set design play a key role in creating a unique and memorable environment. Each visitor is transported to a magical space where Sorolla’s art comes to life. The exhibition becomes a place for meeting, reflection and connection with the painter’s legacy.
Joaquín Sorolla, known as the “painter of light”, is recognized worldwide for his impressive portraits, landscapes and scenes of daily life, bathed in Mediterranean light. His ability to capture the light and colors of nature and fleeting moments has left an indelible mark on the history of art.
“Sorolla through light” is a deserved tribute to one of the great masters of Spanish painting. The exhibition is not only an opportunity to admire Sorolla’s genius, but also to understand his legacy. The beauty of Sorolla’s works lies in their ability to evoke emotions and awaken a deep connection with the viewer.
